The mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), has recently announced on social network X that he will create a special committee to discuss a new legislation for the port sector. “The focus of this commission is to work on a text that encourages the growth and development of this sector that is fundamental to the Brazilian economy,” wrote the parliamentarian. The board will be chaired by Deputy Murilo Galdino (Republicans-PB). The rapporteur will be Deputy Arthur Maia (Union-BA).

The text, authored by Deputy Leur Lomanto Júnior (União-BA), intends to increase competitiveness in the sector by changing regulation rules, service pricing, hiring labor and environmental licensing.

Among the proposed changes is the end of the exclusivity of the hiring of single workers, the free negotiation of the prices practiced by the ports and the integrated licensing of public ports.
