Netflix cancellation rate soars after CEO announces support for Kamala
The number of canceled Netflix subscriptions soared in July this year in the United States after Reed Hastings, president and co-founder of the streaming service, announced financial support for Kamala Harris’ campaign for the American elections, which take place in November, according to the news agency Bloomberg.
What happened
Hastings donated US$7 million (or R$38 million) to the Democrat. The tycoon announced the amount of the donation in an interview with the news website The Information, on July 24, one day after publicly declaring support for Kamala Harris in a post on social media. “Congratulations to Kamala. Now it’s time to win.”
Cancellation rate almost tripled in the US after his support. According to Bloomberg, based on research by consulting firm Antenna, customers in the US canceled Netflix at a higher rate in July: 2.8% — higher than the average for any month since February.
