Rapporteur postpones project opinion on critical minerals until May 4

The rapporteur of the project on critical and strategic minerals, deputy Arnaldo Jardim (Cidadania-SP), postponed the presentation of his opinion, initially scheduled for this Wednesday, after a request from the Lula government for more time to consolidate suggestions for the text. The new date for submitting the report was set for May 4th.

According to Jardim, the opinion is already structured based on the original project, which was on the agenda of the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies this Wednesday and on 12 other proposals attached, and has been constructed over the last few months in dialogue with parliamentarians and different interested sectors.

Party alleges unconstitutionality in the proposal, which reorganizes the structure of the federal administration and adopts, according to deputies, a “statist and interventionist” policy for the strategic minerals sector

He stated that he presented text guidelines in November last year to party leaders in the House and that, since then, he has held negotiations with benches and deputies.

Jardim is the rapporteur of a bill that establishes the National Critical and Strategic Minerals Policy (PNMCE), the Critical and Strategic Minerals Committee (CMCE).

The presentation of the report in plenary had been scheduled by the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, but ended up being postponed after a request from the Executive. According to the rapporteur, the government asked for additional time to formalize its contributions and deepen dialogue with Congress.

— We received a request from the government for additional time, so that it could formally present its considerations and suggestions in a dialogue with Parliament — he said.

Following Motta’s guidance, the rapporteur decided to grant the deadline.

— In the search for dialogue, we will wait for the publication of the opinion and develop these conversations — he said.

The expectation, according to him, is that the text to be filed in May will already incorporate any improvements resulting from negotiations with the government and parliamentarians. Until then, Jardim stated that he will remain open to dialogue with benches, deputies and representatives of sectors interested in the topic.
