Imagens de satélite mostram destruição no Caribe após a passagem do furacão Melissa

Satellite images show flooded streets, destroyed roofs and rubble in the streets. After the hurricane passes, it is also possible to see structures, such as bridges and buildings, damaged and rivers taken over by mud. In Cuba, where Melissa arrived between Tuesday night and yesterday morning, around 735,000 people were evacuated.

Jamaica has become a “disaster zone”. Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the island had suffered significant damage and the devastation was “heartbreaking”. “The damage is enormous, but we will dedicate all our energy to a good recovery,” he wrote on social media. Streets remain flooded and power has been cut.

Fishing village and Montego Bay, a Jamaican city, were also hit. The locations, important tourist attractions in the country, were severely affected. Resorts were partially destroyed, as was the airport.
