Senate approves incentive program for renewable sources

Government officials seek to reduce friction to speed up the processing of the PEC on spending cuts

(Reuters) – The Senate approved this Tuesday the bill that establishes the Energy Transition Acceleration Program (Paten), with the aim of encouraging proposals to replace polluting energy matrices with renewable energy sources, reported the Senado Agency .

Companies that join the program will be able to receive resources from the National Fund on Climate Change (FNMC) and negotiate debts with the Union, with proposals for infrastructure works, expansion or implementation of energy production parks with a sustainable matrix, among other projects, being eligible. .

According to the Senado Agency, priority will be given to projects related to ethanol, aviation biokerosene, biodiesel, biomethane, low-carbon hydrogen, energy with carbon capture and storage and energy recovery and valorization of solid waste.

Another priority of the program will be the expansion of the production and transmission of renewable energy, such as solar, wind, biomass, biogas and energy from hydroelectric plants, including on rural properties.

The project approved by the Senate creates the Guarantee Fund for Sustainable Development (Green Fund), to be managed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), reported Agência Senado.

The bill now returns to the Chamber of Deputies.
