Spain, Germany announce measures to fight hunger in Gaza
In Germany, Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the creation of a “humanitarian air bridge” in partnership with Jordan. The plan provides for the participation of France and the United Kingdom and the coordinated submission of food and medical inputs to Palestinian territory. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will lead the articulation with other European countries.
In the United States, President Donald Trump also made public statements about the situation in Gaza. In a press interview alongside British Prime Minister Keir Strmer, Scotland, Trump stated that “the number one priority now is to feed people.” The Republican revealed that his government has already provided $ 60 million in humanitarian aid and that other countries have committed to intensifying efforts. “It’s a mess. They need food and security right now,” he said. Trump also said he discussed the issue with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Trump criticized the conduct of the Hamas group in the negotiations and said he suggested to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who changes the military approach. The Republican, however, avoided positioning himself on the recognition of the Palestinian State, as recently suggested by France President Emmanuel Macron.
Israel, in turn, has announced new measures to make it easier to enter help, such as daily humanitarian breaks in three areas of Gaza and secure corridors. However, UN agencies evaluate that actions are still insufficient to prevent hunger from continuing to spread by the territory.
