Tarcísio’s deputy says that candidacy for the Planalto “increasingly consolidated”

The candidacy of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), to the Presidency of the Republic in 2026 is treated for certain by members of its surroundings. This is the case of the deputy governor of the state, Felício Ramuth, who said in an interview with the Estadão/Broadcast that the possibility “increasingly consolidates”.

Although Tarcisio publicly denies any intention of disputing the Planalto Palace, Ramuth evaluates that the political conjuncture could push him to the dispute. “The political scenario ends up leading us to ways we didn’t even wait or for which we were not preparing. This can happen,” he said during the program Chat with Editor.

This is the first time a member of the São Paulo government summit admits, so directly, the chance of Tarcisio to enter the presidential race. If this happens, Ramuth would take over the government of Sao Paulo from April 2026.

Despite Jair Bolsonaro (PL) insistence on saying that he will be a candidate, even ineligible, the deputy governor himself admits that the former president’s situation can get worse as the Supreme Court judges the defendants accused of attempted coup-among them Bolsonaro himself, who became a defendant on Wednesday with seven allies.

Still according to the EstadãoCentrão parties have pressured the former president to define himself by the end of 2024, so that the right has time to consolidate a plan B. Even so, Bolsonaro insists that he will record his candidacy, even prevented by the Electoral Court. Despite defending reelection in São Paulo, Tarcisio already makes national movements and has maintained some autonomy over the former president. Ramuth cited as an example the governor’s recent speeches in defense of the electronic ballot box, classified as “world reference” – a position that displeases part of the pocket base. “Just like me, who was elected three times through them, he trusts the system,” said the deputy.

Ramuth also commented on the movement around the deputy governor. If Tarcisio decides to run for the presidency and Ramuth assumes the government, there are at least two heavy names interested in occupying the place in the reelection plate: Alesp President André do Prado (PL), and Secretary of Government, Gilberto Kassab (PSD).

“It is natural that other political forces want to present themselves right now. I am sure that all the names mentioned can contribute in the future government,” said the deputy governor, who said he was “calm” and “cheerful” with the possibility of continuity.
