Trump removes American diplomat from Colombia in protest against Petro

Days later, on social networks, Gimenez countered. “With a lot of respect, I don’t need anyone to convince me that Gustavo Petro is a corrupt, pathetic, incompetent, drug addict and pawn from dictator Nicolás Maduro,” he said. According to him, Petro “transformed Colombia into the world’s chacta reason.”
Already Mario Díaz-Balart rejected the accusation. “I have always met with people and groups of different parties and with different opinions, including various meetings with authorities from the current Colombian government, such as President Petro, Colombian ambassadors in the United States, among others,” he wrote. “I have to laugh at so many inventions, nonsense and hypocrisy. It reminds me of the saying, ‘Every fool for itself,” he said.
In May, Petro warned Díaz-Balart in a speech in Bogota. “Díaz-Balart, do not try to overthrow the president of Colombia, because you will trigger the Colombian revolution,” he said.
Petro summons ambassador
Less than an hour after the American announcement, it was Petro’s turn to act the same way.
“Corresponding to Mr. McNámara’s request for consultations, responsible for the US embassy in Colombia, I am requesting consultations to our ambassador Daniel García-Peña in the US,” he wrote on social networks.
