The author of ‘The Day of the Jackal’ dies at 86
The English writer Frederick Forsyth died yesterday at the age of 86. Forsyth is the author of several espionage bestsellers, such as ‘The Day of the Chacal’, ‘The Odessa Dossier’ and ‘War Dogs’, the three turned into successful movies.
After serving on the British Air Force, Forsyth was an international correspondent for the BBC and the Reuters news agency.
In 2015, he admitted that he also worked for the British secret service, the MI6, for over 20 years.
About how he came to literature and wrote his first novel, ‘The Day of the Chacal’, Forsyth said in an interview with the BBC in 2021: “I was in PindaĆba, straightened, no home, no car, nothing, and just thought, ‘How am I going to get out of this hole?’ And then I had, probably, the crazy idea – writing a romance. “
The cause of death was not disclosed. The writer suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
