What is known as a railway plan that tears Brazil and connects 2 oceans
The project foresees a railway that would depart from Lucas do Rio Verde (MT), agricultural hub in the country, following the Fico (Midwest Integration Railway) to Mara Rosa (GO), where he would connect to Fiol (west-east integration railway). These two railways form the logistics axis that connects the Midwest to the Atlantic coast, by Ilhéus (BA), and would serve as the basis for the Bioceanic stretch towards Peru.
From the Lucas do Rio Verde region, the layout would advance west, crossing Rondônia and southern Acre until reaching the Peruvian border. In Peru, the railroad would cross the Andes, arriving at the port of Chancay, in Pacific, about 70 km from Lima. Technical studies will define the exact layout, including municipalities traveled and points of logistics integration.
For now, the memorandum authorizes only the conduct of technical, economic and environmental studies. There is no definition of budget or execution schedule. Any decision will depend on the results of these studies, according to the Brazilian government note.
Project Details
The Bioceanic Railway has been part of a planned logistics corridor for over a decade to connect Brazil to the Asian market without depending on traditional maritime routes. Its Brazilian sections, Fiol and Fico, are in different stages of implementation and are considered strategic to reduce logistics costs of agribusiness and mining. The Bioceanic segment would prolong this mesh to the Pacific, creating a terrestrial alternative that would dispense with the crossing through the Panama Canal or the contour by Cape Horn.
