Zema says that the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale is “PT populism”
The former governor of Minas Gerais and pre-candidate for President, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated on Monday (13) that the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale is “PT populism”.
“Lula and the PT are taking advantage of the electoral moment to give what they consider a prize, which is actually harmful to a large part of the population. It is PT’s populism and we cannot expect anything different”, he said during a meeting of the Political and Social Council of the São Paulo Commercial Association.
According to Zema, a reduction in hours worked by the Consolidation of Labor Laws, without the creation of alternatives to the model, would only worsen the deficit situation in the country. “Ending the CLT is difficult, due to issues of corporatist interest. But we should try to propose new modalities of labor relations”, he argued.

Hates politicians
At the event, the Novo pre-candidate also defended that he “hates politicians”, but that, ironically, he ended up creating a career in the area. “I have always hated politics throughout my life, but I needed to rethink (…) I became governor of Minas and now a pre-candidate for President,” he stated.
For Zema, the economic instability experienced between 2015 and 2016 made him review his thinking in relation to the area and understand that, if he wanted to change politics, he would need to be part of it. “I said: there is something wrong here with this country. Everyone is moving forward and we are going backwards. The least I have to do is be involved in this problem to show that there is a different alternative”, he defended.
When talking about the current political moment, the former governor criticized the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the federal government and the performance of the former governor of Minas Gerais, Fernando Pimentel (PT), whom he classified as the “worst in history”.
“In addition to the disaster in Brazil under the PT, there was the disaster in Minas under the PT. The devil sent Fernando Pimentel to Minas, who was the worst governor in history”, he reinforced.
Government plan
Romeu Zema is in São Paulo to present the guidelines of the government plan that he will launch alongside his candidacy for President. In a note, the former governor states that the plan was put together in partnership with the Libertas Institute, with the priorities of combating corruption and confronting privileges in the public sector.
The former governor of Minas Gerais highlighted that the plan seeks to present “concrete solutions to the country’s main challenges”, going beyond a simple list of intentions.
“The Brazil of 2026 is like Minas in 2018. The PT formula is ruining the country and enhancing three crises that undermine prosperity. The moral crisis appears in the corruption scandals of an elite that lives above the law and never pays for what it does. The economic crisis is in the daily lives of Brazilians who are unable to close their accounts at the end of the month. The security crisis is the reflection of a government that has lost authority, in an environment where crime rules”, says the note.
