Minister criticizes Aneel and talks about ending concession to Enel
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, created a situation room to deal with the blackout in São Paulo and asked the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to determine greater speed for the distributor Enel, in order to guarantee the rapid restoration of electrical energy in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
According to the MME, the agency clearly fails to monitor the energy distributor, since Enel’s history of problems occurs repeatedly in São Paulo and also in other areas of the company’s concession.
“Once again showing a lack of commitment to the population, the regulatory agency did not proceed with the process that could lead to the distributor’s forfeiture, requested months ago by the Ministry, which should give rise to the investigation of Aneel’s actions with the control bodies”, said in a note.
The MME also clarifies that there is no indication of renewal of the distributor’s concession in São Paulo and that Aneel’s lack of adequate investigation in the case cannot be justified.
The Federal Government issued a decree that establishes more rigorous criteria for evaluating the performance of concessionaires, in addition to expanding investment forecasts, guaranteeing the quality of service and improving the provision of services to the population.
During Saturday (12), Aneel informed that it will summon Enel due to failures in the provision of services and that, depending on the adaptation proposals, it may withdraw the company’s concession rights.
