Josias: Brazil is embarrassed by maintaining moderation against Venezuela

I think Brazil needs to evolve its position in relation to Venezuela and it is already too late. Brazil needs to review its position and give firm responses to the seriousness of the human rights violations that are being documented in Venezuela.

The repression in Venezuela not only affected formal opponents of Nicolás Maduro, but also anyone who dared to disagree with the regime. There was premeditated fraud in the presidential election, surrounded by repressive procedures Josias de Souza, Facto News Columnist

For Josias, Lula’s cautious stance generated offensive responses from the Venezuelan government — which even accused the Brazilian president of being a CIA agent.

Lula, however, continues with a moderate stance, refusing to call Maduro a dictator, although he admits that there is an authoritarian regime in Caracas. But he needs to evolve, because this moderation is being responded to with offenses

Lula was once called a CIA agent by Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek William Saab. If he doesn’t react and doesn’t change his position, he ends up deserving these insults.

Brazil should not subject its diplomacy to this type of embarrassment. We are talking about a decision taken at the UN Human Rights Council, a serious and legitimate body. When offenses are repeatedly ignored, the offended person ends up deserving it. Josias de Souza, Facto News Columnist
