Boulos admits that the campaign has difficulty in dialogue with entrepreneurs from the periphery

Candidate Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) admitted this Tuesday, 15th, that his campaign for Mayor of São Paulo faces difficulties in dialogue with a part of the electorate that lives in the outskirts. In the first round of elections, he lost in traditional left-wing strongholds located in peripheral neighborhoods.

“I don’t think we speak in a more direct way with workers on the outskirts of the city, who, sometimes, are not the poorest, those who are hungry, those who are on the streets,” said the PSOL deputy in an interview with SPTV after being asked about the matter.

Boulos considered that he won in several peripheral regions, but recognized that the campaign could have had a better dialogue with small business owners and self-employed workers in the outskirts. This group is sympathetic to the entrepreneurship discourse, championed by Pablo Marçal (PRTB) in the first round.

The influencer obtained 28.14% of valid votes in the first phase of the dispute, winning mainly in neighborhoods in the east. The former coach even won in peripheral regions where President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) recorded a majority of votes in the 2022 elections, such as São Miguel Paulista and Cidade Ademar.

During the interview with TV Globo, Boulos assessed that the poorest population sees the left’s commitment to social justice, but that workers who “followed their path to prosper in their own way” are not impacted by this discourse. “We stopped talking to these people,” he said.

In search of this electorate, the PSOL candidate presented specific proposals, such as the exemption from rotation for app drivers, the creation of support centers for delivery drivers, credit for women entrepreneurs and the release of advertising for taxi drivers.
