Lula says he gets “very angry” when he is charged for spending on health and education

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) repeated, this Thursday (17), a complaint about criticism he receives in relation to federal government spending and investments.

Lula said he gets “very angry” when he is accused of investing resources in health, education and, mainly, in benefits for the poorest population.

According to him, when businesspeople make contributions to their businesses, such as infrastructure improvements, they classify this as an “investment”, and not as an “expense”.

“There are people who say that Lula is spending money for nothing, he is spending it on the poor. That’s another thing that makes me very angry. Everything the government does is spent. If a banker says he is building a bathroom, it is an investment. If you say you’re fixing the sidewalk, it’s an investment. The businessman who will pay the employees’ salaries is an investment, but when it is the government, it is an expense. I want to say it loud and clear: for me, education is not an expense, health is not an expense”, stated the president.

Lula says he is in no rush to change ministers: “You don’t change a team that is winning”

“You realize that the press rarely says: ‘Lula is going to change the ministry’. Nobody asks anymore”, said the PT member, during an event announcing federal government investments in Rio Grande do Norte

The statement was given in an interview with Metropolis Radiofrom Bahia. Lula participates, this Thursday night, in a rally of the PT candidate for mayor of Camaçari (BA), Luiz Caetano, who is contesting the second round against Flávio Matos (União Brasil).

Lula said that this subject is “nonsense” and also reported a conversation he had with journalists.

“We need to stop this nonsense. These days I asked a group of journalists: ‘Do you think that when the boss gives you a raise, is it an expense or an investment?’. (They responded that) It’s an investment. Well, then what I put into education is also an investment. The day I spend the money to go to jail because the young people didn’t study will be a waste,” he concluded.
