Datafolha: Nunes (51%) loses 4 points in a week, but Boulos (33%) does not rise

The mayor of São Paulo (SP), Ricardo Nunes (MDB)candidate for re-election, continues to lead the electoral race in Brazil’s largest city with a huge advantage, just 10 days before the second round of municipal elections.

This is what the Datafolha survey shows, the second published by the institute in this second round, this Thursday (17). Nunes appears with 51% of voting intentions, compared to 33% for the federal deputy Guilherme BoulosPSOL candidate.

See the numbers:

Ricardo Nunes (MDB): 51%
Guilherme Boulos (PSOL): 33%
Blank/null/none: 14%
Don’t know: 2%

In the institute’s latest survey, released a week ago, Nunes appeared with 55% of the São Paulo electorate’s preference, compared to 33% for Boulos.

In one week, therefore, Nunes lost 4 percentage points, above the margin of error, falling from 55% to 51%. Boulos, in turn, did not grow, maintaining 33% in the stimulated survey.

This was the first Datafolha survey after the energy “blackout” that has been punishing the city of São Paulo (SP) since last Friday (11).

Rejection

According to the Datafolha survey, Guilherme Boulos continues to suffer from a high rejection rate among São Paulo voters: 56% of those interviewed by the institute say they would not vote for the PSOL candidate under any circumstances (it was 58% a week ago).

The rejection of Mayor Ricardo Nunes, much lower, fluctuated from 37% to 35%.

Still according to the survey, 45% of voters say they will “definitely” vote for Nunes, while another 20% “maybe” will vote for him. In relation to Boulos, the percentages are 30% and 13%, respectively.

Spontaneous search

In the spontaneous Datafolha survey, in which the names of the candidates are not presented to the interviewees, Ricardo Nunes maintained 41% of voting intentions, the same level as last week.

Boulos, in turn, was mentioned by 30% of voters, a slight fluctuation compared to the 29% in the last survey.

Undecided voters total 12%, while 10% of those interviewed say they intend to vote null or blank.

The search

Datafolha interviewed 1,204 voters in the city of São Paulo between October 15th and 17th, 2024. The survey’s margin of error is 3 percentage points, plus or minus. The survey was contracted by Folha de S.Paulo and by TV Globo and is registered with the Electoral Court under number SP-05561/2024.

Nunes misses another debate

This Thursday morning, Boulos spared no criticism of Nunes for her absence in the debate that would be promoted by a “pool” of press vehicles formed by Folha de S.Paulo, UOL and RedeTV!.

According to Nunes’ campaign, the cancellation of his presence at the debate was due to a scheduling conflict — he claimed to have an extraordinary meeting with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans)supporter of your campaign, at the same time.

“Since last Friday’s storm, several re-election campaign commitments have been cancelled, giving priority to City Hall’s emergencies”, argued Nunes’ campaign in a statement released to the press in the early hours of the morning.

What would have been a debate between Nunes and Boulos, then, turned into a hearing with the PSOL candidate.

“São Paulo does not accept cowards, it despises cowards, and I am sure that this message will come to the polls on the 27th”, stated Boulos at the beginning of the interview.

This was not the first time that the mayor of São Paulo decided not to attend a previously scheduled debate in this second round. Last week, Nunes was absent from the meeting organized by CBN Radio and the newspaper The Globe. On that occasion, Boulos was interviewed.

By means of a note, the RedeTV! criticized the absence of the MDB candidate. The broadcaster lamented that, “after more than a week of negotiation with the campaigns, Nunes did not find a different time for the meeting on the governor’s agenda.”

The next scheduled debate between Ricardo Nunes and Guilherme Boulos will take place on Saturday (19), at TV Recordfrom 9 pm. On Monday (14), Nunes and Boulos participated in the meeting promoted by TV Bandeirantes.
