Trump says invasion of the Capitol was an ‘act of love’ by supporters
Former President Donald Trump said the attack on the Capitol by his supporters was an “act of love” after being questioned by a voter. He also tried to distance himself from what happened.
What happened
Trump said thousands of people came to Washington “because of the election” and not because of him. He was questioned by a Republican who said he wanted to “give the former president a chance” to win back his vote.
“They thought the election was a rigged election, and that’s why they came,” he said. On January 6, 2021, a mob stormed the Capitol following an impassioned speech by Trump. The group attacked police officers and prevented the session that would certify Joe Biden’s victory.
