SP ‘Estadão’ and Record debate: see time, rules and where to watch

The debate held by Estadão in partnership with TV Record this Saturday, 19th, marks a new meeting between the candidates for Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL). Starting at 9pm, the event takes place just over a week before the second round of elections, which will be held next Sunday, the 27th.

The program, mediated by Eduardo Ribeiro, a Record journalist, will have three blocks with rounds of direct questions between the candidates and will be broadcast on the Estadão portal, Record, PlayPlus, R7 portal, Rádio Eldorado, in addition to the Record and Estadão profiles on YouTube, Kwai, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Facebook.

The debate will have strict disciplinary rules, including the prohibition of disrespectful gestures, display of objects, documents or other items that assist the candidates’ arguments, in addition to the prohibition of the use of rude, vulgar or obscene words against the opponent. Candidates will also not be able to leave their seats during the debate.

For each infraction, the candidate will lose 30 seconds of their final considerations and may be expelled in the event of a repeat offense. The position on stage and the order of speech for each person will be determined by draw a few hours before the confrontation.

Expected to last two hours, the debate will be divided into three blocks. In the first two blocks, there will be two rounds of direct confrontation. Whoever asks the question will have 30 seconds, the other candidate will have two minutes to answer, followed by a one and a half minute reply and a two minute rejoinder.

Also in these blocks, in addition to direct confrontations, journalists from both vehicles will ask four questions, choosing who will answer. The candidate will have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to respond, while the opponent will have 2 minutes to comment. Afterwards, the candidate who responded initially will have 1 more minute for the rejoinder.

Representing Estadão, Roseann Kennedy, editor of Coluna do Estadão and presenter of the Dois Pontos vodcast, and Marcelo Godoy, special reporter and columnist, will participate. For Record, Christina Lemos, presenter of Jornal da Record, and Reinaldo Gottino, from Balanço Geral SP, will be present. The last block will be dedicated to final considerations, with 2 minutes for each candidate.

If one of the candidates does not appear, the debate turns into a 30-minute hearing. A team made up of journalists and lawyers from both outlets will analyze requests for the right to reply in the event of personal offense.

Nunes and Boulos advanced to the second round with 29.48% and 29.07% of the votes, respectively. In the latest Datafolha, released on Thursday, 17th, the emedebista appears ahead in the dispute with 51% of voting intentions, while Boulos registers 33% in the stimulated scenario, in which the names of the two candidates are presented to the interviewees.
