Mayor of Taboão da Serra is in stable health and is breathing without equipment

The health status of the mayor of Taboão da Serra, José Aprígio (Podemos), victim of an attack on the afternoon of Friday, 18th, is stable, according to the medical bulletin released this Sunday, 20th. Aprígio is admitted to the Unit Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo.

The hospital says he is conscious and breathing without the help of equipment.

He was admitted to the hospital on Friday after an injury to his left collarbone.

The mayor is under the care of doctors Fernando Morita (cardiologist), Alex Celullare (cardiovascular surgeon), Leonardo Goulart (neurologist) and Miguel Cendoroglo Neto (medical director of the hospital).

Aprígio suffered an attack on BR-116 and was shot in the shoulder.

“The incident occurred while the mayor was visiting neighborhoods hit by heavy rain last week. On the way to a press conference at the new city hall headquarters, the official vehicle was shot at,” says an excerpt from the note released by Taboão City Hall.

After the attack, Mayor Aprígio was taken to the Akira Tada Emergency Care Unit (UPA), in Taboão da Serra, where he received first aid.

He was later transferred to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.

Aprígio is running for re-election in the second round in Taboão da Serra against the candidate Engenheiro Daniel (União).

In the first round, Daniel received 48.98% of the valid votes and was almost elected. The Podemos mayor came second, with 25 93% of the votes.
