Musk offers $1 million a day prize to anyone who signs his petition in support of Trump
America PAC’s X account posted that the offer is available to registered voters in Pennsylvania who sign the petition. The group had previously released an offer of $100 to voters in the state who sign the petition and $47 to voters in other swing states, including Michigan and Wisconsin. The document says, “by signing below, I pledge my support for the First and Second Amendments.”
Musk invested $75 million in America PAC in the three months through September, according to federal records.
Before the new $1 million announcement, election law experts were divided over whether the offer of rewards for signing the petition – open only to registered voters – was against the law by providing an incentive. A lawyer for Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter Saturday night.
It is a federal crime, punishable by prison time, to pay people with the intent to induce or reward them to vote or register. The ban covers not just monetary expenses, but also anything of monetary value, such as “alcoholic beverages, lottery chances and welfare benefits,” says a Justice Department election crimes manual.
