The national president of Progressistas (PP), senator Ciro Nogueira (PI)criticized the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans)for his performance in the 2024 elections.

The parliamentarian stated that the head of the São Paulo Executive is “leaving something to be desired” in political articulation, if he actually wants to be a candidate for president in 2026.

Nogueira said that Tarcísio is competent, but that this is not enough in a possible dispute for the Presidency. “He could become President Bolsonaro’s candidate for 2026. Few politicians have his CV. A man who graduated from a military engineering school and passed one of the most competitive competitions in the country, but the Presidency is not a public competition”, he stated, in an interview with the newspaper The Globe published this Wednesday (30).

“The best presidents did not pass the competition: Getúlio, Bolsonaro, Juscelino… They are people who have a vision of the country. The governors of São Paulo sometimes think that São Paulo is a country and that it is above Brazil, and this cannot happen with Tarcísio. He is leaving a lot to be desired in terms of political articulation. There is a lot of dissatisfaction in our party, in União Brasil, in his party, in the PL. Today there is only one party that is happy, which I don’t know if it will count on (in 2026) because it is a more governing party, the PSD”, he stated.

Bolsonaro says that, without him, there is no right in Brazil: “How many people gather at the airport?”

“They have tried several times and failed. These guys bring together how many people at the airport in a chat?”, said the former president about the right-wing articulations for the 2026 elections

According to Ciro Nogueira, Tarcísio is the best candidate according to internal polls, but the governor’s eventual candidacy would depend on his articulation and the direct support of the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). “His electoral strength is very great and he will be the one who will decide who the right-wing candidate is,” he stated.

The senator said he tested several names in research and, according to him, they all go from 1% to 30% when Bolsonaro’s support is put at stake. In addition to his own name, Ciro Nogueira stated that the measurements included senator Tereza Cristina (PP-MS), the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), and the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Jr. (PSD).

Regarding Bolsonaro, the president of the PP promised that he will act so that the former president can contest the election in 2026. Due to decisions of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Bolsonaro is ineligible until 2030.

Nogueira also stated in the interview that he will work to have Congressman Arthur Lira (PP-AL), current president of the Chamber, elected to the Senate. “I will work for his election to the Senate so that he will be the first man in history to have presided over both Houses”, he concluded.
