“My position is clear and known in support of Alcolumbre”, says Pacheco about succession

The President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG)defended, this Tuesday (5), the name of Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP) to succeed him as president of the Senate next year.

Pacheco stated that it was a “personal” position and that the PSD bench should meet next Tuesday (12) to decide on the matter.

“My position is clear and known in support of Davi Alcolumbre. He ended up having his career interrupted as president of the Senate (in 2021) because it could not be renewed at that time due to an interpretation of the Federal Supreme Court, which we respect. He wants to return and has my full support for that,” said Pacheco, after participating in the 2nd Economic Freedom Symposium, in Brasília (DF).

Alcolumbre was president of the Senate and was seeking re-election in 2021, but the STF decided that re-election would only be allowed when there was a change of legislature.

Pacheco assured that, as president of the Senate, he will have “exemption” in the process, but he did not hide his predilection for Alcolumbre, even though his party, the PSD, has candidates for the position.

The senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA) intends to run for president of the Senate. The bench leader, Otto Alencar (BA)has also put his name in the discussion. These possible candidacies, however, are unlikely to prosper, and the PSD tends to support Alcolumbre.

“I have a personal preference for supporting Davi Alcolumbre. For everything we built, for having it succeed with Davi’s very vehement support at that time”, concluded Pacheco.
