After declaring support for Kamala, Lula congratulates Trump: “Democracy must be respected”

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke out, this Wednesday morning (6), through social media, and congratulated the president-elect of the United States, donald trumpfor the victory over the current vice president Kamala HarrisDemocratic Party candidate.

In a message published on his official X account (formerly Twitter)Lula stated that democracy “must be respected” and wished the republican luck.

“My congratulations to President Donald Trump on his electoral victory and return to the presidency of the United States. Democracy is the voice of the people and it must always be respected”, wrote Lula.

“The world needs dialogue and joint work to have more peace, development and prosperity. I wish the new government luck and success”, added the Brazilian president.

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected their 47th president and their 45th president,” he told supporters

Last week, on the eve of the election in the United States, in an interview with the French TV channel TF1Lula had made clear his support for Kamala’s candidacy.

At the time, the president stated: “With Kamala winning the elections, it is much safer for us to strengthen democracy in the USA. We saw what President Trump was like at the end of his term, carrying out that attack on the Capitol, something that was unthinkable to happen in the USA, because the USA presented itself to the world as a model of democracy. This model has collapsed.”

Victory confirmed

The victory of Donald Trump, who will return to the White House after four years for a second term (ruled the USA between 2017 and 2021), was confirmed at around 7:35 am this Wednesday, according to a projection by the Associated Press.

Earlier, in the early hours of Wednesday (Brasília time), even before the result was confirmed, Trump gave a speech lasting just over 20 minutes to supporters in Florida. The president-elect promised that his new government will represent a “golden age of America.”

According to the latest updates, Trump had obtained 277 delegates in the Electoral College – 270 were needed. Kamala Harris, in turn, had 224.
