“What happens there happens here”, says Bolsonaro about Trump – and mentions Temer as vice president

PL should support Alcolumbre in the Senate and discuss support for Motta in the Chamber, says Bolsonaro

The former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) sees parallels between his political trajectory and that of Donald Trump, and suggests that the challenges faced by both follow a pattern. “Everything that happens there happens here,” said Bolsonaro in an interview with Folha de S.Paulo published this Thursday (7), referring to the polarization, institutional disputes and the scenario of strong opposition that he and Trump face in their respective countries.

Bolsonaro also revealed his desire to attend Trump’s possible inauguration if the former American president is re-elected in 2024. With his passport withheld due to investigations into the undemocratic acts of January 8, he plans to request a release from the Federal Supreme Court (STF ). “I’m going to petition Alexandre (de Moraes). He decides,” he said, adding: “Trump sees me as a person he likes, it’s like falling in love with someone for free.”

According to the newspaper’s findings The GlobeBolsonaro’s allies will contact Minister Alexandre de Moraes directly to try to convince him to release the document so that he can attend Trump’s inauguration on January 20th. Bolsonaro, in fact, would have endorsed direct contacts with the former president Michel Temer (MDB) to build a bridge with Moraes.

THE Sheet, Bolsonaro mentioned Temer as a viable name for the vice presidencyleaving the door open for strategic alliances. “I don’t rule out talking to anyone, even you,” he joked, before adding: “He (Temer) is a guarantor, he’s a former president.” Bolsonaro reinforced that he is willing to build bridges with different political figures, prioritizing partnerships that can strengthen his return to the electoral scene.

In a possible new government, he says, would opt for a more political structure at Palácio do Planalto, with less military presence. “The ministers at the Palace would have to be politicians, not the ones I put in place”, he admitted. In relation to the media, he acknowledged that his impetuous style generated tensions: “I was very impetuous many times”, he said, acknowledging that, on a second opportunity, he would approach the relationship with the press in a more strategic way.

Bolsonaro also took the opportunity to once again criticize the role of the Judiciary, highlighting that, in his view, the Federal Supreme Court should restrict itself to resolving conflicts. “The one who does not have the power to interfere in anything is the Judiciary. The Judiciary is to resolve conflicts”, he stated. For him, Parliament must be the “last word” power, directly representing the people, while the Executive must operate more autonomously. He added: “For Lula it’s very good. With me, I had at least one intervention from the Supreme Court per week.”
