Bombings hit areas close to Beirut airport, Lebanon

Recordings from the AFP news agency show columns of smoke rising in south Beirut. Journalists from the agency in the Lebanese capital also reported hearing loud explosions.

Avichay Adraee, Israel’s military spokesman for Arab media, had asked residents of four neighborhoods in the south of the city to leave their homes. According to maps of the affected areas published on social media, one of the areas is close to the capital’s airport. “You are located near Hezbollah facilities and areas of interest, which the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will work vigorously against in the future,” he wrote.

Initial information indicates that the airport suffered “minor damage”, according to a document reported by Al Jazeera.

Video shows an explosion that allegedly occurred near the airport runway. The record was released by the “Palestinian Information Center” account on X.

On Wednesday (6), nine Israeli bombings hit south Beirut, bastion of the Islamist movement Hezbollah. According to the Israeli Army, the attack was aimed at the group’s infrastructure, such as command centers and weapons depots.
