“It’s past time”, says deputy government leader, about the end of the 6X1 scale

Representative Reginaldo Lopes, deputy leader of the government in the Chamber, came out in defense, this Sunday (10), of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) which provides for a review of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) to abolish the scale of 6×1 work – ─ one in which the worker is entitled to one day off for every six days worked.

The text has not yet been filed with the House, but the subject has generated widespread debate on social media.

“It is past time for the country to adopt a reduction in the working day from 44 to 36 hours and this must be the center of a popular government”, argued Lopes, in an internet publication. Brazil has to adopt a 4×3 or 5×2 model without salary reduction”, reinforced the parliamentarian, remembering that the model is the basis of the PEC, which he presented in 2019.

For the PT deputy from Minas Gerais, since Brazil adopted the current model, the world has experienced a technological revolution with the advent of the internet and computerization – factors that, according to him, have caused an exponential increase in productivity.

“In addition, the tax reform will greatly expand the production capacity of companies”, he added. “The results must be shared with male and female workers, who must have more free time to take care of their families, better quality of life and qualify for the new challenges of modernity”, concluded Lopes’ post on social media.

Currently, the 6×1 schedule allows companies that offer services every day of the week to organize their employees’ work schedule according to a rule of 6 days worked for every 1 day off. The model is frequently adopted in commerce, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and customer service services.
