Trump’s deportation plan should affect Brazilians; there are 230 thousand illegal
Expert argues that Brazilians will be safe in the USA if they maintain valid status. Rodrigo Costa, CEO of Viva América and immigration specialist, understands that Brazilians living in the USA do not need to worry about deportation as long as they can prove that they are using the visa they received, whether for work or study. “The big challenge of immigration is maintaining your valid status”, he adds.
“Undocumented immigrants will come under real pressure,” says expert. Costa indicates that those people who are living in the United States without documents are at risk. Examples are foreigners who entered the country on a tourist visa or illegally, but have established residence.
Costa argues that “qualified immigrants” will be welcome in the United States. “Today there are a number of job vacancies available here in the United States that cannot be filled by Americans. And the only way to fill these job vacancies is through qualified immigrants”, says Rodrigo Costa, CEO of Viva América, a company specialized in immigration of Brazilians to the United States.
In what areas does the US need immigrant labor? Technology and Information, engineering, energy, logistics and health are the areas in which Brazilians should be most sought after, according to Viva América.
Republican platform can increase the presence of Brazilians in the country. Although Republicans criticized the presence of immigrants in the country during the campaign, Costa sees that with the party’s widespread victory at the polls, the number of job vacancies should increase.
Donald Trump promised “green cards” to foreign students in the country on his first day as president. In June of this year, Trump on a podcast said that foreign university students should receive a green card, or permanent residence card, with their diploma. “Whether this will happen or not is another story, but this is a campaign speech”, says Rodrigo Costa.
