Sabino is the first Brazilian to occupy a high representative position at UN Tourism, since the creation of the international organization in 1975.

The one-year mandate will place Brazil in a key position in strategic decisions for the sector. This includes attracting investment, professional qualifications, sustainability and the relationship between the sector and climate change.

“I believe that the choice is the result of the excellent numbers we have obtained in Brazilian tourism, as well as the union of South American countries into a strong and integrated bloc, in search of greater protagonism on the international stage”, said Sabino.

In addition to the Brazilian’s election, the UN announced the city of Rio de Janeiro to host the international body’s first office in the Americas. “The unit will serve the region of Latin America and the Caribbean and will have Brazilian and foreign consultants who will think about the best actions and policies to boost tourism throughout the region, promoting the economic and social development of the countries served”, stated the ministry, in a statement .
