Lira says he has not yet been called to see the cost cutting package
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL)stated this Tuesday (26) that he was not called by the government to discuss the spending cut package.
The parliamentarian noted, however, that the measures must be approved later this year in the National Congress.
The statements were made after a meeting at the Agricultural Parliamentary Front (FPA), in Brasília (DF).

“I wasn’t called,” said Lira when asked by journalists if the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) or the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT)they had invited him to a meeting on the topic.

“We have to have a very firm stance so that these disinformation attacks stop and that there is a response that is worthy of both Parliament and the Brazilian government”, defended the president of the Chamber
Regarding the approval of the set of measures later this year, Lira said that “it has to be”, even though there is about a month left until the end of legislative work. “I imagine it needs to be”, stated the president of the Chamber.
To make fiscal adjustment viable, the government will have to send a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) and a Complementary Bill (PLC) to Congress.
According to Haddad, proposals to reduce spending must still be presented to Lira and the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), before the formal announcement.
