Since then, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to use the weapon against Kiev in response to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory.

“We are sending signals and we hope that the last one, a few weeks ago, with the new weapons system called Oreshnik, was taken seriously,” Lavrov said.

However, he stressed that Russia does not wish to aggravate the situation and seeks to “avoid any misunderstanding” with Washington and its allies.

“We will send additional messages if they do not draw the necessary conclusions,” Lavrov warned.

Putin said the Oreshnik missile reaches speeds 10 times the speed of sound and cannot be intercepted by air defenses.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky called the attack “the latest episode of Russian madness” and requested more advanced air defense systems to face the new threat.
