Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon kills 6 people, says Lebanese government

Israel also said it carried out an air strike against “a Hezbollah terrorist.” According to the army, the target “represented a threat to the troops deployed” in this region, where a truce between the Lebanese Islamist movement and Israel has been in force since November 27.

Following the cases, Lebanon’s interim prime minister said that stability in the south of the country is essential for peace in the Middle East. Najib Mikati stated that there are “repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement” signed between Lebanon and Israel — both accuse each other of non-compliance with the agreement.

“Security and peace will only return to the region through the implementation of international resolutions and the protection of our country, land and sovereignty”, he concluded Mikati.

The truce came into force on November 27 and prohibits Israel from conducting offensive military operations in Lebanon. The agreement also requires Lebanon to prevent armed groups, including Hezbollah, from launching attacks against Israel. It gives Israeli troops 60 days to withdraw from southern Lebanon.

Israel has already threatened to resume the war in Lebanon

Israel said this week that would happen if the truce with Hezbollah failed and threatened that this time its attacks would be deeper and will target the Lebanese State itself. This was his strongest threat since the truce was agreed to end 14 months of war with Hezbollah.
