Trump asks judge to dismiss defamation lawsuit
Trump’s lawyers said the Constitution’s First Amendment “protects the president-elect’s speech on matters of public interest.”
A Trump lawyer at Dhillon Law Group and a spokesperson for his transition team were not immediately available for comment. On Monday, the president-elect said he will nominate the group’s founder, Harmeet Dhillon, as head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division.
Shanin Specter, attorney for the Central Park Five — Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron Brown and Korey Wise — said he hopes Trump’s arguments are dismissed.
“We look forward to receiving information and proceeding with the trial,” he said.
