Grenell previously served as acting director of national intelligence during Trump’s term from 2017 to 2021 and was Trump’s ambassador to Germany and special presidential envoy for the Serbia-Kosovo peace negotiations.
Nunes, a former U.S. congressman who runs Trump’s Truth Social platform, will serve as chair of the president’s Intelligence Advisory Council, which provides independent assessments of the effectiveness and planning of intelligence agencies.
A longtime Trump supporter who led the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee during part of Trump’s first term in the White House, Nunes will continue as chief executive while also serving on the White House panel, Trump said in a separate post at Truth Social, which is part of the Trump Media & Technology Group.
As chair of the committee, Nunes alleged that the FBI conspired against Trump during its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, in which Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
“Devin will use his experience as former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and his key role in exposing the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax to provide me with independent assessments of the effectiveness and appropriateness of the activities of the U.S. Intelligence Community,” Trump wrote .
