Haddad says he would like Congress to deliberate on the Budget this year
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT)said he would like the National Congress to be able to deliberate on the 2025 Budget this year.
“But I don’t know, I can’t demand more than Congress’s ability to deliver. Congress worked day and night to be able to close (the package), a condition without which voting on the budget would be impossible, how can you vote without knowing the impact of the package on the items”, said Haddad during breakfast with journalists this Friday (20).
Haddad says he does not see himself as a candidate in 2026 and bets on “competitive” Lula
Lula, 79, underwent emergency surgery last week to drain a hematoma in his skull, the result of a domestic accident in October.
On Thursday (19), the rapporteur of the budget proposal, senator Ângelo Coronel (PSD-BA), said that the consideration of the text would be until 2025, after the parliamentary recess.

Therefore, as the proposed Budgetary Guidelines Law has already been approved, the provisional budget execution rule applies, with the release of 1/12 of the forecast for the year until the law’s approval.
Haddad: impact of the fiscal package should fall by around R$1 billion after changes in Congress
At a breakfast with journalists, Haddad said that the result of the vote on the package meets the government’s wishes and added that the spending review has to be a routine for the Executive
The Minister of Finance stated that he has not yet discussed the issue with the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), whom the minister still needs to call to thank for voting on the fiscal package – which will also be extended to the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
“Desiring (a vote on the Budget), yes, but I don’t know if Congress will have the conditions. I hope so, but I can’t say anything further”, added the minister, reinforcing that the priority was voting on the tax package.
