Federal Police arrest suspect in attack on Caixa branch in Rio
Federal police officers arrested, this Monday (23), a private security guard who worked at Rio de Janeiro International Airport (Galeão/Tom Jobim), on Ilha do Governador, in the north of the city.
According to the PF, he participated, on May 11, 2023, in an attack on the Caixa Econômica Federal branch, in Praça do Cocotá, in the same neighborhood. The arrest is part of the third phase of Operation Dynamite, to combat a criminal organization specializing in robberies at bank branches.
“In addition to participating in the attack on the Caixa branch, the man is associated with the local criminal faction, which dominates the territory through the use of military power,” the PF said in a statement.

According to the PF, the criminal organization would have generated around R$1.4 billion, including R$825 million in contracts with public bodies in 2024 alone.
Investigations indicated that the prisoner “had left Morro do Barbante, monitored the area of interest and passed on information to the criminal group about the presence of police officers and vehicles”.
At the time of the attack, five men specialized in explosions were detained in the act by the Civil Police.
Still according to the investigations, during the years 2022 and 2023, using the modality called “new cangaço”, the criminal group carried out at least nine attacks against the assets of Caixa Econômica Federal, in the metropolitan region of Rio.
“The evidence shows that the gang divided the gang into four activities: explosivesmen, security guards, security guards and financiers,” says the PF.
The PF explained that the new cangaço style of assault “is characterized by the use of large-caliber firearms and explosives, shooting at police officers and passersby, using hostages as shields, deactivating the electricity service and using nails to puncture tires. of police vehicles during escapes”.
