Number of people injured in Christmas market attack rises to 299
Authorities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt have reviewed the number of injuries following the attack on a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg in December last year. The balance went from 235 to 299, informed the state Ministry of the Interior this Friday (03/01).
The new figure includes injured people who had not been immediately reported by the city’s health system as being related to the mass hit-and-run. Twelve of the victims are foreigners or have dual nationality, according to the state secretariat. Five people died in the attack.
The perpetrator of the attack, a Saudi citizen, had already been reported to the German authorities on more than one occasion for his behavior on social media. He is in custody while investigations continue.
