Rui Costa, about big techs: let’s call authorities so that “the law is complied with”

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa (PT)stated that Brazil must adopt, together with judicial authorities, the measures that are necessary to ensure that Brazilian law is complied with, following the decision by Meta – owner of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp – to end fact checking in its platforms in the United States.

According to Costa, the world needs to discuss unified international parameters to curb “this type of stance taken by billionaires”.

“We will adopt, with the judicial authorities, the measures that are necessary to ensure that Brazilian law is complied with,” said Costa, in an interview with GloboNews this Thursday (9).

“A platform that has millions or billions of followers cannot not follow any law, follow any rules and not be held responsible for what it broadcasts”, continued the head of the Civil House.

According to the minister, the debate is not just a concern for the country, but for the whole world. “The whole world is starting to discuss what to do to actually control businesspeople, big businesspeople, who have control over these information vehicles, which are communication vehicles”, he commented.

“It is not possible to conceive that there is complete freedom to commit crimes on a digital platform. So, I think the world is starting to discuss, even a way to have a standardization of laws that prevent and international parameters unified by countries that prevent this type of stance of these billionaires who want to influence the mentality and what they should know, or not knowing, or knowing in a distorted way”, he concluded.
