Haddad attacks Zema on social media: “As usual, he hides the truth”

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT)went to X (formerly Twitter) to refute the criticism made by the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (New)on the sanction with vetoes of the state debt renegotiation bill, the Program for Full Payment of State Debts (Propag).

“The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, used this network to attack the federal government, but, as is customary in Bolsonarism, he hides the truth,” wrote Haddad.

Zema said that the Union expected the states to pay the bill for their “spending”, obliging Minas Gerais and expanding transfers to the federal government to support “privileges and perks”.

Haddad, in turn, stated that Zema forgot to mention that he met with the Treasury and presented a debt renegotiation proposal that was “much smaller” than the one approved and sanctioned now.

Information was confirmed by the Social Communication Secretariat (Secom) of the Presidency of the Republic. Vetoes must focus on avoiding judicialization with dubious interpretations of the text approved by Congress

“The governor also seems to have forgotten another piece of information: the veto he cited simply asked the Union to pay state debts to private banks,” wrote the minister.

The government vetoed a section that allowed states that joined Propag to continue to have support from the Union to honor debts with financial institutions and multilateral organizations.

Haddad also mocked the Minas Gerais governor about the increase in his own salary, considering that the state is part of the Fiscal Recovery Regime (RRF), which brings a series of prohibitions to increase expenses while the entity does not get its accounts in order.

“He criticizes privileges while sanctioning the increase in his own salary by 298%, even during the period of the tax recovery regime”, he wrote.
