Agreement, proposed six months ago and rejected, dismantles the Israeli prime minister’s promise that the war would only end when Hamas was annihilated. Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated several times since the beginning of the conflict that attacks in Gaza would not cease before the end of the Palestinian group.

The UN ordered dozens of trucks with humanitarian aid to prepare to enter Gaza. In addition to living with constant bombings and forced displacement, civilians in the region were affected by hunger and cold. The crisis began when, on October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, in an act that left 1,300 dead. The response on the part of the Israelis led entities such as Amnesty International to denounce a genocide in Gaza.

Donald Trump claimed agreement. Immediately and even before Benjamin Netanyahu made the announcement, the president-elect of the United States rushed to publish on his social networks that the agreement had been reached. “We have an agreement on hostages in the Middle East,” he said. “They will be released soon. Thank you,” Trump wrote.

”We haven’t hugged them in 467 days,” the state of Israel said. The Israeli government shared a photo of the remaining hostages on social media and said it will not rest until they are home. ”98 of our brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, mothers, fathers and grandparents”, he wrote.
