Bolsonaro denies contact with Valdemar and says that the governor of SC committed a ‘failed act’

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) denied this Saturday, 18, that he maintains contact with the president of PL, Valdemar Costa Neto. The statement was a response to statements made by the governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello (PL), who said in an interview that the two – Bolsonaro and Valdemar – “talk a lot”.

Both are being investigated and are prohibited from communicating as determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to avoid obstructing investigations into the coup attempt, an investigation that is being processed in the Court.

“(Jorginho Mello) slipped up. At the time of the interview, he said he regretted not being able to speak to Valdemar and said that I have spoken a lot with Valdemar. So, it’s not true, it was a mistake on his part. As far as I know, he made a note on the same day,” he said.

The statements were made this Saturday morning while Bolsonaro accompanied his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro (PL), at Brasília Airport. The former first lady is part of the delegation that will attend the inauguration of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, scheduled for Monday, in Washington.

Last Monday, the 13th, the governor of Santa Catarina stated in an interview with Jovem Pan that Bolsonaro and Valdemar “talk a lot”.

“Our president Valdemar talks a lot with President Bolsonaro, who is the honorary president, right? I hope that in a little while they can talk in the same room, right? To help yourself even more”, said Jorginho Mello.

After the interview, Moraes, rapporteur of the investigation, ordered the Federal Police to take the governor’s statement within 15 days to determine whether Bolsonaro and Valdemar had recently maintained contact.

If proven, communication between the two will constitute non-compliance with the precautionary measure imposed by the minister in February 2024, within the scope of Operation Tempus Veritatis, which investigates an alleged coup d’état plot in 2022, after Bolsonaro’s defeat in the presidential elections. for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
