According to some of the immigrants to AFP in Brazil, the deportated traveled with “feet and hands” tied and spent several hours without air conditioning, without being able to drink water or go to the bathroom during the flight.

A source from the Brazilian government explained that the deportation of this weekend “has no direct relationship” with the operation started after Trump’s inauguration, but with a 2017 bilateral agreement that has already resulted in other expulsions in previous years.

A few days before Trump’s inauguration, Colombia signed, along with Brazil, Mexico and other countries, a statement expressed their “serious concern” for the announcement of a mass deportation of immigrants, a measure that they consider incompatible with human rights .

In just one week in power, the Republican ordered several measures against illegal migration, including deportations, the sending of thousands of soldiers to the border with Mexico and the arrest of 538 people in irregular situation, according to the White House.

Petro even called “dangerous” the US President’s comments about Latin America.

Trump referred to immigrants such as “wild”, “animals” or “criminals” during the presidential campaign.
