PF director does not rule out Bolsonaro’s arrest in an inquiry into a coup attempt

The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodriguessaid on Monday (27), during an interview with the program Rodthat the arrest of the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) can be requested if the “legal requirements” are met. The former president was appointed in the PF final report as the leader of an alleged organization that would have planned a coup after the 2022 electoral defeat.

“The police report is very complete and blunt, bringing several evidence,” said Rodrigues, noting that the document sent to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) describes Bolsonaro as the central figure in the coup plot articulation. “Prison or not prison does not depend on political will, popular pressure or imagination of people. It depends on legal requirements, ”he said.

According to Rodrigues, the PF report details Bolsonaro’s role as organizer of actions that sought to prevent the inauguration of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The investigation was based on testimonials, award -winning collaboration, seized materials and data analysis. “These are no convictions of the investigators, they are evidence in the file,” said the director.

Although Bolsonaro is appointed as a leader, Rodrigues explained that a possible precautionary arrest will only be requested if factors that justify the measure, such as escape, obstruction of justice or recurrence are identified.

Michelle and Eduardo will not be indicted

Rodrigues also clarified that the investigation did not find sufficient elements to indicate former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), both cited in the award-winning allegation of the former ordinant of orders Mauro Cid as part of a radical group .

“We investigated, investigate and did not find enough elements for several people, not only these two,” explained Rodrigues. He pointed out that the award -winning denunciation is just an instrument for obtaining evidence, but it is necessary to cross reports with other evidence.

Next steps of the investigation

The Federal Police report, completed in November 2024, indicated Bolsonaro and 39 others. Mauro Cid’s denunciation was used to point out names that make up the alleged coup plot, but Rodrigues stressed that not all mentioned were indicted for lack of evidence.

Asked about the duration of the inquiry, Rodrigues stated that investigations of this magnitude have “maturation time” and depend on careful analysis. He also reinforced PF’s commitment to exempt and responsible driving, discarding any pre-judgment.
