Papa Francisco stumbles after cane breaks in the Vatican auditorium
Pope has mobility difficulties and often resorts to the wheelchair to get around at Vatican events. At 88 and with knee problems, he has fallen twice in the last two months.
In early January, Pontiff fell and hurt his arm. He did not break the bone, but began to use a type by precaution. Already in December, the Pope hit his chin on his bedside table, in an apparent fall that resulted in a bruise.
In a book, Pope says he feels healthy and has no plans to renounce as leader of the Catholic Church. “I’m fine,” says the pontiff in an autobiography launched in January and for sale in over 100 countries. “The reality is, very simply, that I’m old” (read more here).
He has had flu and disease -related problems several times in the last two years. He also underwent surgery in 2021 to treat a painful condition called diverticulitis, and again in 2023 to repair a hernia.
