Private sector asks Brazil and US to negotiate ‘balanced’ output for fees

On Thursday, Trump announced the creation of a plan that will establish reciprocal rates between countries, ending decades of a commercial regime. The project only comes into force on April 1 and, until then, the Americans indicated that they are willing to negotiate.

One of the countries mentioned by the White House as “unfair” with US products is Brazil, which fees the 18% US ethanol to enter the domestic market.

For AMcham, however, the reality of bilateral trade is of balance and even advantages for Americans.

“The economic and commercial relationship between Brazil and the United States is balanced and beneficial for companies, workers and consumers from both countries,” said the entity, who has over 3,500 associated companies, representing about one third of GDP and 3 million direct jobs in Brazil.

“The high complementarity and intrafirm profile of bilateral trade make the United States a reliable and competitive supplier for the Brazilian productive sector, as well as Brazil for US companies,” they say.

According to US statistics, in the last ten years (2014-2023), the United States has accumulated a US $ 263.1 billion surplus in trade in goods and services with Brazil. If only the flow of goods is taken into consideration, this rate reaches $ 100.3 billion.
