Scientists discover new type of coronavirus in bat in China
A new study published last Tuesday by Chinese scientists details the meeting of a new type of coronaviruses that can contaminate humans in the same forms as SARS-COV-2, COVID-19 virus.
What happened
New coronavirus was found in bat bats. Scientists point out that this virus has contagious potential between humans and animals similar to the COVID-19 virus. Both bind to the converting enzyme of angiotensin 2 (ECA-2) to infect cells.
Virus was not detected in humans. The HKU5-Cov-2 comes from the same lineage as Merbecovirus, which includes viruses such as the cause of MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome).
