Otto Alencar says CCJ will not automatically follow Haddad’s schedule
Senator Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), new chairman of the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), said that the board will not automatically join the agenda of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad. According to the parliamentarian, government and congress priorities do not always coincide and need to be discussed on a case by case basis.
“There is something that is not a priority for the government and it is a priority for us. There is something that is for the government, but it is not for us. We will have to arrive and discuss deeply, ”Alencar said in an interview with the newspaper The globereleased on Wednesday (5).
Asked about the processing of economic guidelines in the CCJ, the senator minimized possible difficulties for Haddad. He assessed that the regulation of tax reform should advance without major obstacles, as well as the proposal for income tax exemption for those who earn up to $ 5,000, although there are pressures to expand the limit.

“The tax will be quiet. Income tax I think it will have no difficulty either. They may want to expand (the ceiling of exemption), but you can’t broaden more than that, ”he said.
Despite the cautious tone, Alencar acknowledged that in the first two years of the government, all proposals sent by the farm to Congress were approved.
Among the topics he intends to prioritize in the commission, Alencar cited the electoral reform, noting that “many senators argue ending elections every two years.” Other guidelines that should advance are the temporal framework for demarcation of indigenous lands, the project that limits supersalaries in the civil service and the PEC of Quinquenium, which provides additional service time for magistrates and prosecutors.
“I do not consider it urgent to put in the room and operate. It has to examine well, there is a lot of version, a lot of narrative in this, ”he said.
Alencar was opposed to any attempt to make the Clean Record flexible, which could benefit Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2026 elections.
“Change the clean record I’m totally against. Of course, being president and urged to put for voting, by leaders, I will put it. But I personally am against it, ”he said.
On the other hand, the senator defended the revision of the penalties imposed on those involved in the scammers of January 8, arguing that some convictions “went beyond the necessary”.
“Many who were there were hired people and who didn’t even know they were trying to the military coup. Someone who arrived there and threw a stone on the Senate, House or Supreme Glass damaged the public heritage, as if someone passed in front of a hospital and broke the glass, ”he compared.
The statements indicate that, under Alencar’s command, the CCJ may adopt a more independent posture in relation to the government, while giving progress to priority guidelines for Congress.
