Trump’s authority that supervises immigrant children’s program is fired
The sudden change in leadership occurs as President Donald Trump’s government guides immigration agents to track immigrant children who entered the United States without their parents, expanding Trump’s mass deportation effort.
Harper, who held a senior position at US Immigration and Customs, brought a small ICE team to the refugee office, two sources familiar with the matter said.
After Trump took office, Harper told the team that the agency planned to attack the smuggling, which could potentially sweep parents who paid smugglers to bring their children to the United States, one of the sources said.
She also said the refugee office planned to use DNA tests to establish family relationships, but it was unclear how often the tests would be used, Reuters said last month.
During his first term, Trump demonstrated willingness to make personnel cycles. ICE high -ranking employees, including interim director Caleb Vitello, have already been relocated amid pressure to increase inspection, Reuters said in February.
