Ciro Nogueira says that 2026 candidate needs to defend the amnesty to Bolsonaro
Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) said on Thursday (6) that if Jair Bolsonaro (PL) does not run for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026, the candidate who has the support of the former president should commit to defending his amnesty.
Nogueira, who was minister of the Civil House in the Bolsonaro government between 2021 and 2022, explained that the amnesty would be a way to correct what he considers “injustice” against the former president.
This statement occurs in a context of intense discussions within the Brazilian right over the names for the 2026 elections.

“Carnival visit focused on 2026,” says Ciro Nogueira about a meeting with Bolsonaro

STF minister maintains a deadline for presentation of the general’s defense, accused of coup attempt, until Friday (7)
Ciro Nogueira met with Bolsonaro on Tuesday (4) to discuss the direction of the right to the election. In a video published on social networks, the senator said: “Let’s go, president, let’s go back”, following the caption: “A carnival visit with look in 2026”.
Bolsonaro has been ineligible since June 2023, when the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) ordered that the former president could not compete by any election by 2030.
In addition, the former president is being the subject of a complaint from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
On February 18, Bolsonaro and 33 others were accused of involvement in an attempted coup after defeat in the 2022 elections for the current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). The case is being analyzed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
Political movement
Nogueira’s meeting with Bolsonaro reflects the senator’s political movement, who has sought to distance himself from the Lula administration, although the PP is part of the allied base of the current government.
Nogueira has already criticized the driving of the country and, in particular, the government’s communication strategy, which, according to him, has impaired the image of Lula.
In an interview with Folha de S. Paulothe senator held the minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom), Sidônio Palmeira, for the increase of Lula’s exhibition, which would have aggravated its low popularity.
Nogueira’s criticism comes in the midst of a genius/Quaest research, released on the 26th, which showed that Lula’s disapproval exceeded 60%. For the senator, the solution would be a deep reformulation in government communication, although he doubts this.
Even with a PP representative in government, Sports Minister André Fufuca, Nogueira suggested that the party could break with the Plateau if there are no significant changes in the petista administration.
In addition, although the PP pressed Lula to replace former Minister Ana Moser and appoint an ally for the Ministry of Sport, the meeting of Nogueira with Bolsonaro suggests a distancing movement from the ruling base.
The senator, who opposed PP entrance to Lula’s base, now seems to align with other political forces, predicting a possible defeat by Lula in 2026 and seeking to stay well positioned for the political future.
