Paramilitary attack leaves 45 dead in the escalation of conflict in Sudan

Sudan has lived a war since April 15, 2023. In the conflict, the chief of the official army, Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, faces his former assistant, the leader of the Far, General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The charter presidential palace has been occupied by the paramilitary faction since the beginning of the conflict. After winning the complex, the Far quickly took control of the city, forcing the government aligned with the army to flee to Porto Sudan on the Red Sea coast.

State television released images of combatants celebrating the resumption. Army soldiers also shared videos filmed in social networks in what would be the interior of the presidential palace. “Our forces completely destroyed the enemy’s fighters and material, and took over large amounts of equipment and weapons,” said Military spokesman Nabil Abdalá in a statement released by state television.

In a statement published on Telegram, the Far said they launched a “lightning operation” against the palace. “The battle for the Republican Palace is not over,” they said.

Three journalists were killed in a paramilitary attack with a drone in the palace, according to a source of the Sudanese army. The attack occurred hours after official forces resumed the building. The journalists were referring to Sudanese state television when the attack occurred, the source told AFP.

Hard blow to the far

Militia loses strength. A military expert, who spoke under anonymity for security reasons, told AFP that “with the entrance of the army into the Republican Palace, which means control of the cartoon center, the militia lost their elite forces.” Paramilitaries installed their elite troops and stored many weapons and ammunition in the old headquarters of the Sudan’s state sovereignty.
