A blackout considered unusual hits Chile on Tuesday (25). For more than six hours, residents from various parts of the country have faced difficulties. President Gabriel Boric decreed a state of exception and collecting touch from 10 pm until 6am this Wednesday (26). Part of the country had the supply restored only in the early evening.

What happened

Chile’s electrical system cut was detected at 3:16 pm, according to Senapred (National Disaster Prevention and Response Service). At least 19 million people in different parts of the country, including the capital, Santiago, were out of electricity. Metro of the capital was emptied and extra buses were made available.

Regions that have not had their energy restored at 10 pm are Arica and Parinacota, on the border with Peru, and Los Lagos, which has part of the Argentina border. At the height of the problem, almost 99% of the country’s cities were out of energy.
